VERD for OMC°C

VERD is the first prototype of a greening system designed for OMC°C.
The system consists of a tripod module about 10 meters high that supports three planters and a total of six biodegradable flax nets, creating 100m² of greening in a season.

The system works with fast-growing annual climbing plants cultivated in accordance with the seasonal cycle: the planter units are stocked with seeds and seedlings in the spring, the plants grow rapidly throughout the summer, and in the fall, the resulting biomass is harvested and utilized.

“The structure functions as a ‘greening machine’ and makes urban spaces more harmonious and livable, even from an aesthetic perspective.“

VERD is a pioneering vertical greening system designed to tackle rising temperatures in urban areas where planting trees is difficult, for instance, due to compacted soil. As a first-generation system, VERD explores how extensive greening can be integrated into cities with minimal footprint and changes to existing infrastructure, while offering essential environmental benefits, such as shading, cooling, and a reduction in noise and fine dust. It features fast-growing plants that climb biodegradable nets, reaching heights of up to 10 meters within three months, actively binding CO₂ as they grow. The plants also provide food for insects and birds, contributing to increased biodiversity and supporting urban ecosystems. VERD is adaptable for both temporary and permanent urban applications. VERD is currently being tested in Frankfurt, where its ecological impact is under evaluation.
