HOUDINI for E15 – 10 YEARS

Inspired by a technique used in airplane model making, plywood is stretched by hand around a complexly milled solid wooden ring to form the back of the chair and the edge of the seat.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of HOUDINI Stefan Diez curated a palette of anniversary colors. The new palette combines a sophisticated mix of metallic and melodramatic tones with a spark of exuberant colors.

MR COLLINS with its dynamic form and ergonomic comfort is an endearing stool applicable in diverse arrangements for living or working situations. The silhouette of the stool is informed by the original lines of chair HOUDINI.

HOUDINI for E15 – 10 YEARS
2009

Collection of Chairs – oak or walnut veneered and lacquered plywood

Named after the great magician Harry Houdini, Houdini’s slender silhouette is comprised of thin plywood shells, magically held in place without screws or nails. The result of a sophisticated combination of craft and industrial production, the complex shapes of the invisible frame elements are milled with a 5AX CNC machine. The veneered surfaces of the backrest and the seat are manually bent and then glued to the frame. The originally two-dimensional wood surfaces thereby reveal their three-dimensional qualities. This principle is employed for an entire line of chairs, named after Houdini’s children: Leo – low chair, Jean – bar stool, Eugene – lounge chair, Bess and Bessy – upholstered and new for the anniversary Mr Collins – low stool.
