ROPE TRICK for HAY

No mental boundaries: this is a guarantee of good design. The idea of the ‘Rope Trick’ lamp developed by Stefan Diez is a demonstration of how a few ideas can be enough to create something new and effective.

The components that make up this lamp – although designed with a very precise aim in mind – seem to retain the random character of an aggregation of disparate, ‘found’ elements, along the lines of the approach taken by the Castiglioni brothers in their best works.

Stehleuchte – extrudiertes Polypropylen, Stahlrohr, Gusseisen, Aluminium-Druckguss, Polycarbonat, Textilschlauch

Floor Lamp – extruded polypropylene, steel tube, cast steel, cast aluminium, polycarbonate, fabric sleeve

Intuitive and original, Rope Trick sets a new benchmark in floor lamp design. Maximizing the benefits of compact, low heat emission LED technology and taking inspiration from power transfer coils common to CNC hardware, it rethinks and economizes the design principles of a floor lamp from the ground up. The light source is placed in an injection moulded aluminium (core) component, which integrates heat sink, controller, shade attachment and handle into one compact unit fixed to the rope´s end, forming its signature loop. Capable of 180-degree rotation and fully height adjustable, the lampshade moves effortlessly along the lamp’s neck, which is dressed in a textile tube that visually unifies the different structural elements. Thus rope trick can adapt to a variety of conditions, from a spotlight for reading to glare-free room lighting.
